November 11th, 2009 - Essentials of Asphalt Mix and Maintenance, Parts 1 & 2

The National Pavement Expo West in Las Vegas, NV will feature this two-part Asphalt Institute course on Dec. 3, 2009 from 1:00 - 4:30 p.m. Taught by AI Senior Regional Engineer Wayne Jones, this course will cover the essentials of asphalt mix and maintenance.

Based on the new edition of AI’s best-selling manual MS-16 Asphalt in Pavement Maintenance and Preservation (available December 2009), these interactive sessions will give you practical answers to common problems and will offer plenty of opportunities for discussion with Wayne, who has more than 35 years experience in the asphalt paving industry.

Essential of Asphalt Mix and Maintenance, Part 1
Part 1 of this two-part course will help you quickly get up to speed on the fundamentals of HMA materials and their appropriate uses. Plus, you’ll learn how using the right mix in the right location in the pavement can save time and money during construction and reduce customer complaints after the job is over.

Essentials of Asphalt Mix and Maintenance, Part 2
In Part 2, learn practical “troubleshooting” guidelines for pavement repair including examples of what causes pavements to fall apart. After learning how to evaluate an asphalt pavement you’ll tackle “best practices” for maintenance and repair of asphalt pavement, including patching, crack sealing, and surface treatments.
