Q9. |
What is the difference between the trial version and the full version of SW-1? |
A9. |
The SW-1 trial version is intended to offer prospective customers an opportunity to review the software for a short period of time. The SW-1 trial version offers limited functionality. While trial version users can view example problems, they are not allowed to open or create data files or project records. Users of the full version can create new data files and fully manage project records. |

Q14. |
I upgraded my computer. Can I install SW-1 on my new computer? |
A14. |
You have a choice when installing SW-1 on a new or upgraded computer.

Q16. |
Does SW-1 produce designs that one would obtain by using the AASHTO Guide for highway pavement design or the FAA design method for airport pavements? |
A16. |
SW-1 is based on the respected design procedures of the Asphalt Institute as detailed in MS-1, MS-11, MS-17, MS-23, and other Asphalt Institute documents. These methods were developed independently from those of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) or the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and have a proud legacy of their own. The Asphalt Institute methods are based on mechanistic-empirical principles and have been developed and refined over a period of 30 years.
There are many cases in which SW-1 will produce designs that are comparable to AASHTO or FAA designs. SW-1 offers additional capability to design Full Depth Asphalt® sections, HMA over granular base, HMA over emulsified asphalt bases, and a variety of hybrid cross-sections using the advanced structural analysis module. |

Q17. |
The design aircraft for my air carrier airport is a Boeing 777. Why can't I find the Boeing 777 in the SW-1 aircraft table? |
A17. |
The SW-1 air carrier airport design module supports the bulk of the current Boeing fleet such as the 727, 737, 747, 757, and 767. At the present time, SW-1 does not support designs for the Boeing 777.
The Asphalt Institute is working to update SW-1 for both current aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and the Airbus 318/319/320, 330, 340, 380 aircraft that are in the current fleet. We will also add future aircraft to the aircraft list such as the Airbus 350 and the Boeing 787. We apologize for this temporary limitation in the air carrier airport module of SW-1 and are working hard to improve the software. |
