Reed Ryan

Reed Ryan joined the Asphalt Institute (AI) as its 12th President in 2025. Established in 1919, this United States-based trade association of international petroleum asphalt producers, manufacturers and affiliated businesses has over 130 members. AI represents approximately 95 percent of the annual North American asphalt production and a growing percentage in overseas markets giving it a majority voice on binder-related issues.

Reed brings extensive experience in leadership and advocacy within the asphalt industry. Prior to this role, he served as the Executive Director of the Asphalt Pavement Alliance (APA), where he collaborated with national industry leaders to champion the quality of asphalt pavements across the United States.

Before his time at the APA, Reed was the founding Executive Director of the Utah Asphalt Pavement Association (UAPA), a position he assumed in 2012. His leadership helped establish UAPA as a critical voice for the asphalt industry in Utah.

Reed’s career began in Washington, D.C., where he worked as a legislative aide to Senator Orrin Hatch and later as a Public Affairs Specialist for the Office of Public and International Affairs for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Brigham Young University and a Juris Doctor from The George Washington University.

Originally from the mountains of Colorado, Reed has a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He enjoys snowboarding, running, golfing, and spending time in the yard. A passionate sports fan, he remains loyal to his favorite teams—despite their occasional heartbreaks—including the Denver Broncos, BYU Football, the Washington Nationals, the Washington Capitals, and the Utah Jazz. Above all, Reed finds his greatest joy in family life, raising three sons and a daughter with Syndi, his wife of 23 years.
