After earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration from the University of Kansas, Scott began his asphalt career with Koch Industries. Over the course of sixteen years, Scott managed various portions of Koch Industries affiliated business units as General Manager, Eastern Region Leader of Koch Materials Company, Vice President of Koch Oil Company and Vice President of Industrial Marketing of the Gateway Pipeline Company. Scott left Koch to pursue an eight-year career at CITGO holding the position Asphalt Marketing and General Manager to the Vice President, as well as holding the title as interim president. Scott temporarily left the corporate world for three years as he consulted asphalt, petroleum and construction clients with Black Rock Resources, LLC. Scott joined the Hudson Companies in 2011 where he was Executive Vice President and oversaw their asphalt business for three years. In 2014, Scott joined Alon USA as Senior Vice President where he turned around a struggling asphalt business and helped transition to new ownership under Delek US.
Scott’s diligent service with the Asphalt Institute spans nineteen years beginning in 2000 when Scott first served on the Board of Directors. Scott would go on to serve a total of eleven years on the Board of Directors and seven years on the Executive Committee. The Finance Committee benefited from Scott’s service for four years. Additionally, Scott served on the Affiliate Committee for two years. Scott also assisted the Institute by participating on other key committees of the institute including the Chairman’s Advisory Group, Public Policy/Relationship Committee, Technical Advisory Committee and the Management Oversight Committee, each for one year.
Scott also spent time supporting the asphalt industry in other ways being a member of the National Asphalt Paving Association and a past board member of the National Center for Asphalt Technology at Auburn University.
Scott’s dedication of service and support to the Institute transcended through decades and different companies. The Asphalt Institute could always count on Scott to encourage his employers’ continued involvement and support for his team members to invest their time serving the Institute.
In reviewing Scott’s prominent career and long-term service to the Asphalt Institute, its members and industry, it is evident that he is deserving of the Asphalt Institute’s Distinguished Service Award.
