Dr. Norman W. McLeod is one of the most widely-known men in the field of asphalt technology. He has written and presented numerous papers on soils engineering, the structural design of flexible pavements and the design of all types of asphalt surfaces and bases. His many contributions to the advancement of asphalt technology have been instrumental in developing new and better techniques in the asphalt paving field. During the intensively active part of his career he received many awards for his written and oral contributions on asphalt technology.
For many years Dr. McLeod was active in all technical committee work of The Asphalt Institute, and contributed much of his time and knowledge to the development of its many technical publications. He traveled extensively to many foreign countries during his employment with the Imperial Oil Company, filling technical assignments for the various affiliated companies of the Standard Oil Company (New Jersey).
He was a member of many and varied technical organizations and contributed numerous articles on advanced asphalt pavement technology published in the proceedings of these organizations.
Dr. McLeod was educated at the Universities of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Michigan. In 1953 he received a Citation as a Distinguished Alumnus from the University of Michigan.
